If you're searching for a new home, but really interested in renovating an older home (because they have the BEST neighborhoods), do yourself a favor and stay off Pinterest. No good comes from searching "open concept" in Google images, either. What you're left with are grand images that your 1960's center hall colonial will never be.
We're 17 days into the buying and selling process. We managed to sell, now for the buying part. At first we weren't in a rush, because we accepted a contingency offer on the sale of our home and figured we had lots of time. That was until we discovered the 203(k) mortgage. Now, instead of buying that house that needed all the work and developing our five year plan for improvements, we can find our home, build in the cost of renovations, and wait until our house is "done" to move in. This could be fun, although the "patience" both our mortgage broker and general contractor say we need is something I don't quite think I can muster.
So for now, we search for the house. Once we cross this rather important task off our list, the real fun begins! Until then, I'll just drool over the pics my Google searches yield.
